DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THRU 0130Z August 04, 2005

Alaska:
Extensive wildfires are over Yukon-koyukuk county in Alaska. These fires
are producing moderately thick smoke west of a line from Wainwright to
Circle Hot Springs to Togiak. Thin smoke crosses into northern Yukon
and the far northwest Northwest Territories.

Washington State:
Thin smoke from the Dirtyface fire located near Lake Wenatchee in Central
Washington extends westward to southwestern King County.

Hawaii:
Brush fires are producing dense smoke along the Kohala Coast on the west
side of the big island. Smoke is spreading westward over the Kawaihae Bay.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
