THRU 0200Z August 11, 2005

Washington/Oregon/Idaho/Montana:
Numerous fires are producing moderate smoke across eastern Washington
and northeastern Oregon and moving east into central Idaho and western
Montana. The smoke spreads as far north as interstate 90 and as far
south as Boise National Forest in Idaho. The smoke begin to thin out in
western Montana as it stretches just east of Great Falls and the Little
Belt Mountains.

area of moderate to thick smoke. The smoke extends from central Alaska
north into the Beaufort Sea and spreads eastward into northern and
central Yukon and Northwest Territories to just west of Great Bear Lake.
The southern extent of the smoke in the territories ranges to the Pelly
Mountains in Yukon Territory and the Horn Plateau in the Northwest
Territories.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
