DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z October 4, 2005

Great Plains:
A few agricultural fires are producing thin smoke across the TX/OK
panhandles and in Nebraska. The largest smoke plume is located near
Texhoma, TX and is thin to moderately dense.  It extends NNE across the
OK panhandle into SW KS 168km to near Pierceville,KS in Finney county
and is on average 43km wide.

Arizona:
A fire along the Coconino/Gila county line near Forest Lakes is producing
thin smoke that extends NE 79km into central Navajo county and is about
4km wide.

Utah:
A new fire in the Dixie Nat'l Forest along the county line SW of Paragonah
and NW of SR-143 is producing dense smoke extending NE 44km along the
Garfield/Iron county line to the Piute county line and is about 9km wide.

Nevada:
A new fire near Belmont,NV near on the Monitor Range is producing dense
smoke extending NE 70km to near Duckwater, NV in NE Nye county and is
on average 17km wide.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
