DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z October 7, 2005

California:
Fires in northwest Riverside county and south San Diego county are
producing two large area of smoke that stretch as far as 225 km west
across the counties in southwestern California and into the Pacific Ocean.
A fire in southwest Plumas county is producing a moderate plume of
smoke that reaches the north edge of Sierra county. A thin plume from
a fire in south Humboldt county is pushing east into Trinity county.
Multiples fires in northeast Siskiyou county are producing smoke plumes
that are moving east northeast into Modoc county and across the border
into Klamath county in south central Oregon. Their are multiple fires
burning across the state that have small thin associated plumes.

Arizona:
Multiple fires burning in the Kaibab National Forest northwest of
Flagstaff and in the Coconino National Forest south of Flagstaff are
producing large area of thick smoke moving east northeast across the
state.  The smoke from these fire stretch into central and south  Navajo
and Apache counties to near the New Mexico border.

Idaho:
A fire on the Lincoln and Jerome county border in south central Idaho
is producing an area of moderate smoke that stretches 125 km west into
Gooding, Elmore and Twin Falls counties.

Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
