DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z October 10, 2005

Northern and Central California:
Fires in Tuolumne and Sutter Counties generated smoke plumes that extended
26 nmi to the southwest and 26 nmi to the south, respectively.

Arizona:
A thin plume of smoke was moving east from a blaze in Maricopa County.

Texas:
Fires in Matagorda and Gonzales Counties produced plumes that stretched
45 nmi to the northwest.

Lower and Mid Mississippi Valley:
Numerous ag fires produced spotty smoke plumes that were moving towards
the south and southwest.


 


Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
