THROUGH 0130Z November 11, 2005

Arkansas/Mississippi/Alabama:
Fires in Jefferson, Grant, Dallas, Quachita and Drew counties in southern
Arkansas are emitting thin smoke plumes heading in a south to southwest
direction across the region. In southern Mississippi fires in Leake,
Newton, Oktibbeha, Lowndes, and Kemper counties are producing thin
elongated smoke plumes all moving south across the state. Southern
Alabama counties of Clarke, Wilcox and Covington have fires emitting
thin smoke plumes moving south. The fires mentioned above are mostly
agriculutural or prescribed burns.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
