DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z November 13, 2005

OKLAHOMA:
A fairly large fire in extreme western Pittsburg County is producing
a long smoke plume. The dense plume extends toward the southwest,
reaching slightly past the Texas border.

EASTERN KENTUCKY AND NEIGHBORING AREAS:
Dense cloud cover since morning prevents smoke detection by satellite.
However numerous fires continue especially in eastern Kentucky and
western West Virginia.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
