DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z November 15, 2005

TEXAS:
A fire in Crosby county Texas is producing a very narrow and thin smoke
plume that extends about 50 km to the south.

There is also an area of blowing dust that can be seen across west
Texas. The southern extent is roughly along an Abilene to Midland line
and the northern extent is roughly from Vernon to Muleshoe. It is moving
to the south.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
