DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z November 25, 2005

Arizona:
A persistent fire in the Coronado National forest in southeast Arizona
(Cochise County) produced a moderate to dense smoke plume that extended
toward the northeast into Hidalgo County, New Mexico. The plume could
be seen in satellite imagery earlier this afternoon/evening until cloud
cover became too dense and obscured the plume.

Florida:
A fire that began at about 1730Z in Bay County (10 or 15 miles southeast
of Panama City) is producing a dense smoke plume that extends eastward
through several neighboring counties including Gulf, Liberty, Wakulla,
Leon, southern Jefferson, and Taylor Counties and also nearby coastal
waters.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
