DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1730Z November 28, 2005

Mississippi Valley and South Texas:
An area of thin, elevated dust/sand is seen extending from northeast
Mexico across much of south Texas mainly south of a line stretching
from Del Rio to San Antonio and and eastward along Interstate 10. The
sand/dust then curves to the northeast and north behind the strong cold
front. It extends from southwest to northeast Louisiana and then straddles
the Mississippi river into southeast Missouri and further extends into
central Illinois.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
