DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z November 29, 2005

New Mexico/Texas/Louisiana:
Early morning GOES-West visible imagery shows a possible swath of thin
airborne dust extending from east central New Mexico across central to
southeastern Texas and southern Louisiana. The possible thin area of
dust then likely spreads across the northern Gulf of Mexico though this
is outside of the GOES-West viewing area. The dust does not show up in
GOES-East imagery due to the unfavorable sun angle for this satellite
during the morning. The source region of this possible dust cloud is
unknown and may be leftover from yesterday.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
