DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z January 6, 2006

California:
Fires in southern Imperial County were generating areas of smoke that
were moving towards the south.

Arizona:
Two fires in Greenlee County produced smoke plumes that moved southwest.

Texas:
Intense fire burning in Hale County has produced a thick plume of smoke
that is moving towards the southeast. Other thick plumes of smoke were
generated from blazes in Brazoria and Bexar counties. These plumes were
also moving southeast. Smoke-producing fires could also be found in
Bell, Clay, Harrison, and Nacogdoches counties. All smoke was moving
towards the southeast.

Florida:
Thick plumes of smoke were moving towards the southeast from fires in
Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties and towards the east from blazes in
Franklin and Liberty counties. Fires in Palm Beach and Orange counties
produced clouds of smoke that moved towards the northeast.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
