DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2345Z January 10, 2006

Florida:
A narrow plume of thin smoke was observed mixed with clouds extending
to the northwest from a fire over coastal Wakulla county. The smoke
extended to the northwest part of the county.

Arkansas/Louisiana/Mississippi:
An area of elevated blowing dust was over southeast Arkansas, northeast
Louisiana and northwest Mississippi. The dust was quite thin and has
become entrained in the circulation of the low pressure system over
southern Missouri.

Arizona:
A small puff of thin smoke from a fire over west central Greenlee county
was seen drifting to the east to the New Mexico border.

Mexico:
A blaze in northwest Sonora Mexico produced a plume of moderately dense
smoke that has fanned out to the northwest and to the east southeast. The
fire was about 150 km southwest of Nogales, Arizona.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
