DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z January 17, 2006

Texas:
Thin to moderately dense smoke that originated from a fire on San Jose
Island near Aransas Pass. The smoke currently is 42 km SE of the fire
with the plume extending an additional 183km to the SSE (or 152km due
E of the Southern Tip of TX.

Arizona:
Moderately dense smoke from a fire just NE of Pinetop (SE of Show Low)
just west of the Najavo county line extends due S 38km and is about 7km
wide. This would cover most of SR-73 within Navajo county.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
