DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z January 19, 2006

Texas:
60 nmi long plume extended to the north of a fire in La Salle County
while a narrow 80 nmi long plume extended to the northeast of a blaze
in Scurry County.  Fires in Hood and Freestone counties were generated
small plumes that extended to the northeast.

Oklahoma:
Smoke from fires in Oklahoma were being obscured by high clouds, but
plumes were noted in Jefferson, Comanche, and Carter counties moving
towards the northeast.



 


Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
