DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2215Z January 27, 2006


Georgia:
A moderately dense fan of smoke from a fire along the Bryan/Liberty
county line just N of SR144 extends 73km to the WNW to around Metter in
Candler county.
A moderate to dense smoke plume from a fire on the Eastern side of Fort
Benning in Chattahoochee county extends WNW 38km to the AL/GA line and
is about 16km wide.

Florida:
A plume of thin smoke from a fire at the Southern end of SR-361 in
Dixie county S of Jana.  The plume extends 40km WSW into the Gulf of
Mexico. The plume is about 13km wide.
Two thin plumes of thin smoke extend from two source regions along
US-19 in S Dixie and N Citrus counties. The plumes extend out to sea
over 130km due W of shore.
A line of very dense smoke from a fire on the central Franklin/Liberty
state line near Morgan Place extends WNW 73km to near the town of Bennett
in Bay county. The plume is about 38km wide.
A small plume of dense smoke from a fire near Rosedale in W Gadsden
county extends NW 28km into central Jackson county as is 18km wide.
A thin line of moderately dense smoke from a fire along the coast just E
of Spring Green in Wakulla county wavers from W to WSW and extends 35km
to the Liberty/Wakualla county line and is about 5-7km wide.

Louisiana:
A dense mix of smoke and cumulus cloud extends 43km NW into central
Calcasieu parish from a fire just south of Lake Misere in Cameron
parish. The plume is about 10km wide.
An area of moderately dense smoke from two fires extends NNW 101km to
the Lincoln/Bienville/Jackson parish triple point from the dominant smoke
producing fire in central Grant parish near Dry Prong and a second fire
near Zion in N Grant parish. The area is not only 101km long, it is over
27km wide.
An area of thin to moderately dense smoke is becoming obscurred by cirrus
and other mid to high level clouds.  The smoke's source is a fire near
Fullerton in Vernon parish and extends due N over 100km covering all of
Natchitoches parish and W Grant and Winn parishes.

Mississippi:
Thin smoke from a fire near Knoxville in Franklin county extends NW 62km
to near Holly Ridge in Tensas parish, LA. The plume is about 8km wide.

If significant changes occur in the smoke over the western US, an
additional update may be produced later tonight.  However... this should
be the last update on smoke east of the Mississippi River, as nightfall
approaches.

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
