DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1530Z February 9, 2006

Southern California/Baja Mexico:
Morning visible imagery shows the possible remnants of smoke from
yesterday's southern California and Baja, Mexico fires more than 100
miles off the coast of southern California and Baja. The possible area
of smoke was moving to the southwest, farther away from the coast.

Southern/Southeastern US:
GOES Channel 2 data from this morning indicated scattered fires developing
across the southern US stretching from eastern Texas to Florida, but no
significant smoke was visible yet from these fires.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
