DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z February 15, 2006

Georgia/South Carolina/North Carolina:
A fire in Liberty county Georgia is emitting a thick plume of smoke
moving northeast into Chatham, Bryan and Effingham.  The smoke is also
moving into the counties of Jasper and Beaufort in South Carolina.
A fire in Glyman county Georgia is producing an area of moderate density
smoke moving northeast into Liberty and McIntosh counties.
Minor smoke producing fires are burning in Brantley, Jasper, Jones and
Richmond counties in Georgia, Colleton county in South Carolina and
Bladen and Moore counties in North Carolina.

Florida:
A fire in Franklin county is emitting a large area of thick smoke moving
northwest into Liberty, Gulf, Calhoun and Bay counties.  Another couple of
fires burning in Wakulla county are producing a large area of  moderate
density smoke moving north into Leon, Gadsden and Decatur counties.
Minor smoke producing fires are burning in the counties of Hardee,
Manatee, Highlands, Okeechobee, Polk, Palm Beach, Glades and Hendry.

Texas/Louisiana:
A smoke producing fire in Walker county is emitting a large area of dense
smoke moving northeast into Trinity, Houston and San Jacinto counties.
In Louisiana a large smoke producing fire in Rapides county is emitting
thick smoke moving north into Grant, La Salle, Winn, Caldwell and
Catahoula counties.  A fire in Webster county is producing an area of
high density smoke moving north into Claiborne, Columbia, Quachita,
and Nevada counties in Arkansas.
Minor smoke producing fires are burning in San Augustine county in Texas
and Vernon, Natchitoches and Bossier counties in Louisiana.

Arkansas:
Fires burning in Montgomery, Polk and Scott counties are producing a
combined area of  thick smoke moving north into Logan, Franklin, Johnson,
and Poke counties.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
