DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1530Z MARCH 20, 2006

No significant areas of smoke or blowing dust/sand were visible in
satellite imagery this morning. Strong gusty westerly winds were noted
blowing across eastern New Mexico and western Texas which normally
produces areas of blowing dust/sand. However recent rains have diminished
this threat somewhat. Not quite as much rain fell in the southern portion
of this area though so will need to monitor the region of southeastern
New Mexico/southwestern and southern Texas for blowing dust/sand as well
as smoke from any fires which may develop.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
