DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0245Z MARCH 28, 2006

Numerous fires dot the Southeast. These fires produced very thin to
dense smoke that drifted mostly toward the north and northeast. The
largest plumes were observed over S South Carolina and S Florida.

South Carolina:
Two fires over northern Charleston County produced moderately dense plumes
of smoke that extended to the southeast and out over the Atlantic. Plumes
of moderately dense smoke were also observed drifting to the southeast
from fires in southern Charleston County and southern Barnwell County.

Florida:
Large fires in S Brevard and NW Indian River produced an extensive
plume of dense smoke that extended southward to Okeechobee County and
westward to Polk and Hardee County. Another large fire in NW Palm Beach
County produced a plume of dense smoke that spread westward across S
Lake Okeechobee to Glades and Hendry County.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
