DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1715Z APRIL 05, 2006.

Florida:

Several fires around the Lake Okeechobee area are producing very thin
smoke plumes that are drifting southeast over the southern end of Lake
Okeechobee and northern Hendry and western Palm Beach counties.

Kentucky:
A fire in the vicinity of the Daniel Boone National Forest has just
produced a smoke plume that is drifting southeast towards northern
Whitley county.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
