DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1645Z APRIL 09, 2006.

Arkansas:
A few small plumes are still visible in satellite imagery this morning.
The smoke from Saltine County Arkansas has shifted to the west.

Lower Mississippi Valley:
Smoke was moving south across Lake Pontchartrain from a fire in
St. Tammany County, Louisiana.

Central Plains and Mid Mississippi Valley:
A large area of smoke, remnants of yesterdays extensive ag fires in
Kansas, was moving north across eastern Kansas, extreme northwest
Missouri, western Iowa and southeast Nebraska.

Texas:
A possible area of dust was moving northwest through Medina County.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
