DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2345Z APRIL 09, 2006.

Lower Mississippi Valley:
The Saltine County Arkansas fire continues to burn, resulting in a dense
smoke plume that was moving towards the northwest. A blaze in Harrison
County Mississippi generated a moderately dense smoke plume that extended
south into the Gulf.

Central Plains and Mid Mississippi Valley:
As was the case yesterday, extensive ag fires primarily in east central
Kansas have resulted in a large area of moderately dense smoke that was
moving north through eastern Oklahoma and eastern Kansas.

Texas:
Thick smoke was moving south from a blaze in Jasper County.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
