DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z APRIL 11, 2006.

Central US:
Abundant cloudiness covers the middle portion of the country which is
limiting the detection of any leftover smoke from yesterday's numerous
fires which were particularly concentrated across eastern Oklahoma,
eastern Kansas, Missouri, and northern Arkansas.

Louisiana:
A narrow northward moving smoke plume was observed this morning from a
fire in the eastern portion of Cameron Parish of southwestern Louisiana.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
