DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1515Z APRIL 20, 2006.

Mexico:
A large area of smoke can be seen across most of the Bay of Campeche
and the eastern Gulf of Mexico just to the SE of Brownsville, TX.
The area is bounded by Brownsville to Merida, Yucatan and through the
Mexican states of Campeche, Tabasco, Veracruz and the coastal zones
of Tamaulipas.  The density is moderate around the source regions in
Tabasco and begin to fade to thin smoke just N of 22N and eventually
non-discernible by Brownsville.  Transport is NWly under good SSEly flow.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
