THROUGH 1615Z MAY 4, 2006.

Oregon:
A narrow, yet moderately dense smoke plume is observed in Marion county
and heading west.

Western Gulf of Mexico:
A very large area of smoke occupies the majority of the Bay of Campeche
as well as most of the western half of the Gulf of Mexico and heading
north towards Texas and Louisiana. This smoke is the result of fires
over the past few days, as well as the numerous current fires on the
Yucatan Peninsula.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
