DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1545Z MAY 7, 2006.

Western Gulf of Mexico:

Widespread smoke covers much of the western Gulf of Mexico west of the
Yucatan peninsula.  The northern extent of the smoke is approaching the
Texas/Louisiana coast.  Thicker smoke is observes south of 27N.

Cuba/Florida:


Several plumes is observed moving northward from Cuba with one thick
plume in particular crossing the Florida Keys near 26.4N 81.75W and
entering Florida in the Marco/Naples area. Thinner smoke is visible
mover much of the Gulf of Mexico west of the Southwest coast of Florida.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
