DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0232Z MAY 17, 2006.

Canada/Michigan:
A large wildfire continues to burn about 85 miles east of Baie Boatswain
along the southeast shore of James Bay.  A very large smoke plume
was seen spreading southwest from the point source and approaching
the northeast shore of Lake Superior and the nearby Upper Peninsula of
Michigan.  The plume was very dense within 25 miles of the point source
and transitioned to a moderately dense plume over southern Ontario and
extending towards Lake Superior.

North Dakota/South Dakota/Minnesota:
Scattered fire activity throughout the area this evening were producing
numerous thin smoke plumes that were extending southeast from their
point source.

Wyoming:
A fire along the western slopes of the Laramie mountains just south of
Casper was producing a moderately dense smoke plume that as of sunset
was drifting south into Carbon and Albany counties.
