DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0145Z May 24, 2006.

Texas:
A very large fire on the border of Armstrong and Randall counties is
producing a very thick area of smoke.  The smoke is moving east northeast
across the eastern Texas Panhandle and into western Oklahoma.  The fire
has been burning for over 6 hours.
A fire in Martin county is producing a thick plume of smoke moving
northeast across central Texas.

Mississippi Valley/Plains/Upper Great Lakes/Ohio Valley:
An area of thin smoke with no defined origin stretches across the
northern/central Plains eastward to the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley
region.

  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
