DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z June 01, 2006.

Florida.
A very large fire burning for the last two days in Baker county continues
to produce a large area of thick smoke. The smoke extends southwest
across northern Florida and into the Gulf of Mexico. Another fire
burning in north Bay county is emitting a moderately dense plume of
smoke moving southwest. In Citrus county a fire is producing an area
of thin smoke moving southwest into the Gulf of Mexico.

Virginia:
A couple of small fires are producing areas of moderate smoke moving
north northeast across south and southeastern Virginia. One fire is
on the border of New Kent and King William counties and the other is
bordering Appomattox and Charlotte counties.

Lake Ontario/New York:
An area of possible smoke and haze is moving east across Lake Ontario and
western New York. The source of this possible smoke cannot be confirmed.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
