DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0030Z June 02, 2006.

Northern Alberta:
A fire in the Wood Buffalo National Park has been producing smoke for
at least 15 hours. The short plume of moderately dense smoke has veered
from north to east over this period of time.

Southwest:
Two wild fires broke out late in the day in the Prescott National
Forest. Smoke was moving north from a blaze in central Yavapai County
while a second smoke plume was moving northeast from a fire along the
Yavapai-Coconino border. Dust was noted across eastern Arizona as well
as central and eastern Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties
of California. All areas of dust were moving east.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
