DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z June 08, 2006.

Eastern Quebec:
A very large fire burning in the Sept-Iles Port-Cartier Province Wildlife
Reserve is producing a large area of very thick smoke. The smoke is
moving mostly west northwest across Quebec. Earlier in the day smoke was
also moving southeast. The smoke that was moving southeast is beginning
to push west northwest as the system off the northeast US coast is having
a large influence on smoke movement.

Florida:
In north Broward county, a fire is producing an area of moderately dense
smoke moving northeast. Smoke is moving across the counties of Palm
Beach and Martin and then into the Atlantic.

Alabama/Georgia:
A fire on the border of Cleburne and Calhoun counties in Alabama is
emitting an area of moderately dense smoke moving into the counties of
Carroll and Haralson counties in Georgia.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
