DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1610Z June 30, 2006.

Utah/Nevada:
The wildfire on the border of Washington County, Utah and Lincoln County,
Nevada continues to produce a moderately dense plume of smoke that is
spreading away from the fire in all direction. The majority of the smoke
is within the southwestern portion of Utah, but some has spread into
eastern Nevada and northern Arizona.

Canada and North Central U.S.:
The numerous fires in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have produced
a massive area of moderately dense to dense smoke that is traveling east
to southeast and reaching parts of the Northern Plains/Upper Mississippi
Valley.  The majority of the fires as well as the most dense portion of
the smoke is located in central Saskatchewan.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
