THROUGH 1602Z July 7, 2006.

Eastern States and Canada:
A large area of smoke is visible from the Great Lakes down through
the Mississippi Valley and then moving northeastward over the Eastern
Seaboard. The massive wildfires across northern and central British
Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are the source of this smoke.
The thickest area extends from northern Alabama to western North Carolina,
however the smoke can be seen moving from New England into Nova Scotia.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
