DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1602Z July 9, 2006.

Eastern U.S., Midwest, and Southeast:
Light smoke and haze covers much of eastern Virginia, North and South
Carolina, and Georgia. Much of the Eastern Great Lakes, western New
England, the Gulf of St. Lawrence and surrounding provinces of Canada.

Northern California:
A small smoke plume can be seen associated with a fire near the border
of Tehama and Trinity Counties extending to the north.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
