DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1615Z July 21, 2006.

Minnesota/Ontario/:
An area of thick smoke is moving southeast from multiple fires burning
in southwest Ontario and fires on the border of Ontario/Minnesota.
The smoke seems to be thicker in Minnesota most likely from the combine
contribution of fires in both areas.

Northern Rockies/Northern Great Basin/Inter-mountain West
An area of moderately dense smoke possibly from the fires in western
Montana and central/southern Idaho is moving southeast across southern
Idaho. The smoke continues to move towards Interstate 15 and eventually
into western Wyoming.

Wyoming/Nebraska/Colorado:
Multiple fires burning in Park County Wyoming just southeast of
Yellowstone National Park are producing areas of thick smoke moving
southeast across the state through Casper and into the southeast part
of the state before crossing the border into the southwest Nebraskan
Panhandle and northeast Colorado. The smoke associated with the fires
become moderately dense once reaching areas around Casper and into
Nebraska and Colorado.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
