DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z August 25, 2006

Washington/Oregon:
The fires in Okanogan County once again are producing locally dense
smoke traveling to the southwest. Fires in the southeastern portion of
the state are generating moderately dense areas of smoke extending into
Wheeler county Oregon.

Northern Plains:
Residual smoke from the massive amount of fires yesterday is extending
through southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. Moderately dense smoke ahead
of a frontal boundary curves from central Montana through the Dakotas
to central and eastern Nebraska.

California/Nevada:
Fires in Siskiyou and Trinity counties in California continued to produce
locally dense smoke traveling westward. A fire in Lincoln County Nevada
is producing thin smoke moving northeast into Utah and Wyoming.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
