DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z August 29, 2006

Northwest:
This morning much of the Northwest has been obscured by cloud cover. It
is presumed that smoke is mixed in with the clouds from fires burning
in Okanogan and Columbia counties Washington, and central Idaho.

Saskatchewan/Alberta:
Moderately dense smoke is moving into the southern portion of these
provinces likely from last evenings fires in Idaho and western Montana.

Oregon:
A fire in Grant county is producing locally dense smoke headed due east.

California:
The continued burning throughout Siskiyou and Trinity counties is
producing locally dense smoke in the valleys, becoming thinner as it
travels northeast to the Oregon border.

MS

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
