DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1545Z September 20, 2006

Southern California:
The very large Day fire located in NW Ventura county is producing
moderately dense smoke that extends west in a plume on average 40km
wide from the fire across the San Gabriel Mtns. to the southern tip of
NV into NW AZ near Kingman to near the town of Grand Canyon on US180.

Northern California:
The Bassetts fire in central Sierra county is producing moderately dense
smoke that extends to the S and SE... it currently covers most of western
Nevada and Placer counties with the front edge of the smoke now entering
the Valley.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
