DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0145Z October 6, 2006

North Dakota, U.S./ Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canada:
Numerous agricultural fires caused narrow plumes of thin smoke that moved
mostly to the north over northern North Dakota, southeastern Saskatchewan
and southern Manitoba.

Northwest U.S. :
Fires in northern Idaho and northwestern Montana produced plumes of thin
smoke that drifted off to the east and northeast.

Southeastern U.S. :
Numerous agricultural fires in the Southeast  caused scattered plumes
of thin smoke that drifted southward over northeastern Texas, southern
Arkansas, northwestern Louisiana, southeastern Alabama and the Carolinas.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
