DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z October 9, 2006

California:
Two fires in western Siskiyou and northern Trinity counties are producing
moderately dense plumes of smoke moving southwestward and mainly covers
most of Humboldt county of western half of Trinity county.

A fire on the border between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties is
producing a thin to moderately plume of east NE smoke which has covered
southeastern corner of San Luis Obispo county and southwestern quarter
of Kern county.

Arkansas/Mississippi/Louisiana/Alabama:
A big fire in southeastern Polx county is producing a dense plume of
smoke which is explosive around the fire point and has covered the
four-corner area of Polx, Montgomery, Pike, and Howard counties.

A fire in western Scott county is producing a moderately dense plume of
smoke that is moving to the south and has covered western of Scott county.

Several fires in lower eastern and southern Arkansas and western
Mississippi are producing thin to moderately dense plumes of smoke moving
mainly westward.

Many agricultural fires in Louisiana are producing thin plumes of smoke
moving mainly to the west.

Several fires in southern Mississippi and Alabama are producing mainly
thin plumes of smoke moving mainly to the south.

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
