DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2345Z October 16, 2006

Kansas:
A few agricultural fires have produced puffs of thin smoke that have
been moving rapidly NE across W KS. Currently the smoke is located over
Lane county and was produced by a fire in NW Garden county and SW Grant
county. Other small puffs were becoming detectable on visible imagery
as the local sunset was occurring.

California:
Multiple thin to moderately dense smoke plumes can be seen moving SE
across the Sacramento Valley. The smoke is from agricultural fires
across Sutter, Colusa, and SE Glenn county.

Gallina

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
