DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z October 19, 2006

California:
Several fires in Mono, Merced, Mariposa, and Monterey counties of central
California are producing thin to moderately dense plumes of smoke moving
mainly southward. A bunch of small fires around the four-corner area of
Glenn, Butte, Colusa, and Sutter counties are producing thin plumes of
smoke. A big fire at intersection of Butte, Tehama, and Plumas counties
are producing a moderately dense plume of smoke that is moving to the
south and has covered top area of Butte county.

Oklahoma and Arkansas:
A fire in MC Curtain county of Oklahoma is producing a moderately dense
and narrow plume of smoke moving easterly. A fire along the border of
Bradley, Calhoun, and Cleveland is producing a thin plume of smoke moving
to the northeast.

Saskatchewan:
A lot of fires in southeast corner of Saskatchewan of Canada are producing
thin plumes of smoke.

Mexico:
A big fire in northern Mexico is producing a moderately dense to dense
plume of smoke that is moving 35 miles to the south.

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
