DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z October 26, 2006

Oregon:
Several smaller fires throughout southern and central Oregon are producing
light plumes of smoke that are moving both to the north and to the south.

South Dakota/Minnesota:
A fire in northeast South Dakota is producing a moderately dense plume
of smoke that extends into southern North Dakota.
Just east over the border in Minnesota, there is a fire that is also
producing a narrow moderately dense plume of smoke that is moving to
the north.

Florida:
A fire located on the panhandle is producing a plume of light to
moderately dense smoke that fanning out in a southward direction over
the Gulf.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
