DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z October 26, 2006

California:
A plume of smoke from a growing fire northeast of Coalinga in Riverside
County is being fanned by Santa Anna winds west across Orange County and
off the coast as far as Santa Catalina and San Clemente Islands. At a
slightly higher altitude some smoke is moving southeast toward the Salton
Sea but the majority of the thick plume is moving south towards Temecula.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
