DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0330Z November 12, 2006

Florida:
A smoke plume, likely of the thin to moderately dense variety, was barely
visible through breaks in the clouds moving east across Leon County and
the Tallahassee area during the afternoon. The fire was located in the
far western portion of Leon County.

Texas/Southwestern Louisiana:
Fires near the Orange(TX)/Cameron(LA) border of southeastern
Texas/southwestern Louisiana, Chambers County of southeastern Texas,
and Matagorda County of southeastern Texas were emitting narrow thin
to locally moderately dense smoke plumes which spread in a southward
direction and out over the Gulf of Mexico. Cloudiness in the area limited
viewing of the smoke.

Pacific Northwest/British Columbia Province in southwestern Canada:
Quite a few fires were detected across the region but widespread
cloudiness prevented smoke detection.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
