DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0245Z November 23, 2006

Lower Mississippi Valley and Texas:
Agricultural fires continue to burn across eastern Texas, Missouri,
Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. Through clear skies a lot
of light smoke was able to be seen coming from these fires. To the west
of the Mississippi River the smoke is moving in a north northeasterly
direction, while east of the Mississippi river smoke is moving directly
to the south.

The majority of the smoke is found in eastern Texas, western Louisiana,
central Mississippi and southern Missouri.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
