DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1715Z November 27, 2006

Southern and Southeastern US:
Widespread agricultural fires were evident in satellite imagery over
the region this afternoon and evening. Approaching cirrus field has
somewhat limited smoke analysis but still have been able to pick out
numerous fires that were emitting mostly thin to locally moderately
dense smoke plumes that were generally drifting northwest. The densest
smoke plume over the region was associated with a fire over the southwest
portion of Clay county. The plume extending nearly 80 miles north into
southeastern Marshall county.

Texas:
A fire over southern Castro county, in the Texas Panhandle, was producing
a moderately dense smoke plume that was drifting northeast into southern
Randall county.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
