DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z December 8, 2006


Lower Mississippi Valley/Texas:
Several of the agricultural fires in Louisiana, Arkansas and eastern
Texas are producin light to moderately dense plumes of smoke that are
all moving to the south.

Arizona:
A fire in northwest Coconino county is producing a moderately dense
narrow plume of smoke that is moving to the northwest and crossing into
Mohave county.

There is also a fire on the southern border of Navajo and Apache county
that is producing smoke staying relatively close to the source, but
still moving slightly to the south.

In central Gila county there is a fire producing light smoke that is
extending nearly 75 nmi to the west.

In Cochise county there is a fire producing a light plume of smoke that
is initially moving to the west, but as it hits central Pima county it
begins shifting to the north.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
