DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z December 23, 2006

Texas:
A patch of thin to moderately dense smoke was observed moving southward
and fanning out from a fire located close to the Goliad-Victoria County
border in southeastern Texas.

Remainder of the US:
Widespread cloudiness producing areas of rain covered the eastern portion
of the nation from Alabama/Georgia to the Northeast. More clouds extended
from the Southwest to Montana and long the Pacific Northwest coast. Fire
and smoke detection in all of these areas was greatly limited.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
